Weight loss is expected after bariatric surgery. Most bariatric procedures have been able to achieve loss of more than 50% of excess weight, which is a pretty impresssive successful outcome.
An increasing number of people are turning to weight loss surgery (lap-band surgery) as a last resort to help them lose weight and reverse some of the health risks associated with obesity. The Lap Band is placed using key-hole surgery which doesn't leave large scars and minimises post-surgery recovery time. Most patients are up and active after a few days, and the wight loss happens quite quickly. After leaving hospital, patients normally take a couple of weeks to start performing normal activities. At this time, most Lap Band surgery patients still feel a little uncomfortable in the abdominal area, and will have to be very careful with the diet.
